Child and Family Clinical Psychologist

Jeremy Johnson

Dr. Jeremy Johnson is a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in family, child, and adolescent practice. His two primary categories of service are psychological evaluations and family therapy.

The psychological evaluations are for children and adolescents ages 4-24 that need a thorough mental health evaluation. Psychological evaluations often include clinical interviews with the child or adolescent and their caregivers, administration of intelligence and achievement measures, administration of personality/diagnostic measures, scoring, interpretation, and write-up. Psychoeducational evaluations, which are intended to assess intellectual or learning deficits (school) often include clinical interviews with the child or adolescent and their caregivers, administration of intelligence and achievement measures scoring, interpretation, and write-up. ADHD evaluations often include clinical interviews with the child or adolescent and their caregivers, administration a continuous performance test (TOVA) specifically for ADHD, ADHD report forms, scoring, interpretation, and write-up. Adoption evaluations are also available and are taken on a case by case basis.

Dr. Johnson primarily conducts family therapy but may also perform work individually with children and adolescents. His therapy background covers a broad spectrum of mental illness with special interests in trauma and maltreatment, anxiety-related disorders, family conflict and cut-off, conduct and behavioral disorders, and ADHD. Treatment is often provided in the form of Gospel-Centered Family therapy, an approach he pioneered that blends structural family therapy and personality psychology within the Biblical framework of the gospel. Pre-marital counseling is also offered using similar techniques, utilizing both personality psychology and Tim Keller’s The Meaning of Marriage book as a foundation.

Dr. Johnson has a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology, and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.). He completed his internship training at Children’s Institute, Inc., a large community mental health facility in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Johnson and his three sons live in Helena, Alabama. Dr. Johnson is a member of the Church at Old Town Helena, where he is involved with the worship team and the student ministry.
