Melinda Higginbotham, M.S.
Licensed Professional Counselor
A transplanted Sooner (from Oklahoma), Melinda practices at Wellspring Christian Clinic. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from Lee University
and a Diploma in Christian Counseling from the Psychological Studies Institute in Atlanta. She is licensed by the state of Alabama as a
Professional Counselor and as a Supervising Counselor. Since relocating to Birmingham in 1990, she has worked as a counselor on staff with
Metropolitan Church of God, as a staff therapist with Golden Care (a geriatric mental health program), and as a private practice clinician
with Kathy Miller & Assoc. and Meier New Life Clinics. She has also partnered with Kelley Cousins Jones to conduct Healing the Wounded Woman
(a 12 week women's recovery program) numerous times in the Birmingham area.
Melinda works with adults and adolescents, particularly enjoying her work with adults who have a family history of dysfunction or childhood
abuse (including sexual abuse), compulsive overeaters, couples struggling to build and maintain healthy relationships, and the terminally
ill and their families. She also enjoys assisting individuals wrestling with such issues as depression, anxiety, attention-deficit disorder,
self-esteem issues, codependency, bereavement, borderline personality disorder, survivors of abuse and various addictions, and other mild
eating disorders.
In 2001, Melinda began coursework in pursuit of certification as an Art Therapist, and currently enjoys integrating art therapy into the
work she does. Another recent addition to her work has been skills training for those with borderline personality disorder. She also enjoys
teaching and conducts group therapy for the Day Treatment Program at Wellspring.
